Deshaies

Deshaies is a charming fishing village situated in the northeastern corner of Basse-Terre in Guadeloupe. Lined with lush green hills sloping down to the sea, this village has kept its original warmth and authentic spirit. A grocery store, bakery and many other stores and souvenir shops can be found in the center of town. This is also the departure point for day trips by boat to see the dolphins. Diving enthusiasts will be happy to find a variety of clubs proposing introductory dives to discover the seafloor.

The Basse-Terre region offers a wealth of unspolied natural beauty. The Parc des Mamelles and the Regional Forest are brimming with hiking trails, rivers, waterfalls and hot springs. The Maison de la Forêt, next to the Cascade aux Ecrevisses off the secondary road, will be able to give you all the information you need about the different itineraries. Be sure to visit the Botanical Gardens, a most worthy stop. For days when you just want to relax, we suggest you choose one of the magnificent beaches on the Côte-sous-le-vent, for example Anse de la Perle, Petite Anse and Grande Anses, or Plage Caraïbe at Pointe Noire.
