La maison dans la mer " the house of the sea" is a unique and charming villa that has been fully renovated and is situated at the entrance of Saint-Pierre, a village on the North Caribbean coast of Martinique. 5 star rated by the martinican tourist board (since december 2023) this historic house dates back to the early nineteenth century (or even earlier!), and has beautiful exposed stone walls. Thanks to its solid structure and thick walls, it survived the eruption of 1902 that destroyed most of the town. It is also the only house in Saint-Pierre that has a terrace that overlooks the beach and is literally close to the sea.

How is the “House in the Sea” arranged?

The house was completely renovated in August 2023, keeping only the original external walls of exposed stone. The floor tiles, the framework and the roof were all replaced. The building was soundproofed by triple glazing. The electricity and plumbing were updated as well as all the modern comforts (the kitchen, air conditioning).

Historic building lovers will admire the attention given to the aesthetics of this holiday rental, such as the sanitary ware with “retro” taps, the tiles, the furniture and the decorative accessories. The parquet floor of the upstairs bedroom, from the nineteenth century, was restored by skilled craftsmen. 

 The "House in the Sea" has two levels. On the ground floor, there are 4 lovely air-conditioned bedrooms, 3 double bedrooms with king-sized beds (180 cm) and a children’s bedroom with 2 bunk beds. An air-conditioned lounge area with a comfortable sofa bed can also accommodate an additional person (extra charge).Upstairs, there is a splendid master suite with an amazing view of the sea.

On the seafront, the stunning living space of the house lets you fully appreciate the sea view. The fitted kitchen is next to the covered terrace. The terrace has several cozy spaces for a group stay: a large dining table, a lounge area, etc.

The villa is designed to be a cozy and comfortable place for families with children. It has many amenities that make it kid friendly, such as a cot, a high chair, and a large washing machine that can handle up to 10 kilos of laundry. It also has a dryer, so you don’t have to worry about wet clothes or towels. The villa is a perfect choice for a relaxing and fun-filled holiday with your loved ones.

What to do near the House in the Sea?

The beach in front of the house is quiet and peaceful, as most bathers go to Turin Cove, 1 km away. You will not be bothered by passers-by and other beach-goers, who are only local residents.

30m to the left of the house, on the beach, there is a fisherman’s shelter that offers an authentic tourist experience! You can watch some typical scenes: the departure and arrival of gum trees and the landing of fish, sold on a simple stall behind the shelter. You can easily buy fresh fish for your barbecues from here!

You can also join the fishermen when they throw the seine (a net to catch fish), and participate in the ceremony of raising the stage (lifting the net from the water), a moment of true authenticity. 

To make the most of your seaside experience, a two-seater kayak and a paddle board (with life jackets) are available free of charge. You can also discover the natural beauty of the seabed of Northern Martinique by treating yourself to a diving session in one of the many clubs in the town.

Staying in Saint-Pierre is also an opportunity to discover the history of this former economic and cultural capital of the West Indies (before the eruption of Mount Pelée in 1962). Many open-air remains can be visited on foot or via a small train ride. We recommend that you complete your stroll through the city with a visit to the Frank A. Perret Museum, a memorial to the 1902 disaster.

By opting for a stay in the north of Martinique, you will be able to discover many points of interest. The north of the island has several excellent distilleries (Depaz on the heights of Saint-Pierre, JM in Macabou, Neisson at the entrance to Carbet). You can also indulge in hiking: Prêcheur-Grand Rivière, the ascent of Mount Pelée, the gorges of the Falaise. Finally, do not forget to include a visit to the Zoo du Carbet in your program,and potentially combine it with the gardens of Balata towards Fort-de-France.
