Les Monts du Lyonnais is 50 minutes by car from downtown Lyon. Thus, you can spend a day (or more) to see the treasures of Lyon. The Basilica of Fourvière, the Old Lyon district or the Parc de la Tête d'Or are essential points of interest in Lyon.

The municipality of Saint-Laurent-de-Chamousset is located on the border of the Rhône and Loire departments. However, it belongs to the Rhône region and is 50 minutes by car from the centre of Lyon. This commune has a quaint charm. During your stay in Saint-Laurent-de-Chamousset, discover the church and chapel of Saint-Bonnet. In addition, Château de Chamousset is a historical landmark to visit. Indeed, it was here that the liberation of Lyon was organized during the Second World War.

Every Monday morning from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., the fairground market is held in downtown Saint-Laurent-de-Chamousset. You will find many fresh and organic food products.

Sainte-Foy-de-l’Argentière

Sainte-Foy-de-l'Argentière is located a little further south of Saint-Laurent-de-Chamousset in the Monts du Lyonnais. This town is home to the Grande Tuilerie du Rhône. Indeed, Saint-Laurent-de-Chamousset is known to be the leader in the manufacture of roof tiles in France. Visit the church and the castle of the village. A tourist train runs between Sainte-Foy-l'Argentière and l'Arbresle every Sunday from June to September. Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise

You will see half-timbered houses, remains but also an old hotel in the Art Nouveau style. Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise is the essential meeting place for lovers of dry sausage; it is the speciality of the town.

The medieval leisure park of Salva Terra in Haut-Rivoire will immerse you for a day in the medieval period. You will attend demonstrations of sword fighting, jousting or chainmail craft.

The Courzieu animal park will be an unforgettable memory during your holidays in Lyon. Escape into this park in the heart of nature to admire wolves and birds of prey.

Every year in June, a rally starting from Sainte-Foy-l'Argentière is organized. You have to drive 120 kilometres to win the rally. The course is divided into several stages, with breaks for the technical assistance of the competitors. The rally ends at the end of the day in the town of Meys.  

The triathlon of the Monts du Lyonnais

The Monts du Lyonnais triathlon takes place every summer from the town of Yzeron. The swimming part is held in Lake Ronzey. In addition, the Club des Monts du Lyonnais organizes a bike & run edition every winter. You and your partner will alternate between running and cycling for 7 or 15.7 kilometres. A format for young people exists with short distances.

The trail of Les Coursières

The trail des Coursières is organised from the town of Saint-Martin-en-Haut. In winter, 2 formats are available. A 31-kilometre and a 15-kilometre circuit. In spring-time, the trail of Les Coursières reaches 53 kilometers for the shortest version and 111 kilometers for the ultra trail. The ultra trail is part of the qualifying races for the ultra trail of Mont Blanc.

How to reach your holiday rental in the Monts du Lyonnais ?

The most comfortable way to travel in the Monts du Lyonnais is by car. Indeed, each commune is outlying, so you would have trouble getting around without a car. From Lyon, you can reach the Monts du Lyonnais in about 30 minutes. However, some municipalities in the massif are further away from the city centre of Lyon. It will then take you 1 hour by car to reach them.

Rent a car to get to the Monts du Lyonnais

 If you do not have your own car during your stay in the Monts du Lyonnais, you can rent one. When you arrive at the railway station of Lyon Part-Dieu, go to AVIS car rental. This agency is located on rue de la Villette. From Lyon Perrache station, you can reach the AVIS agency on the Perrache quay in a few minutes.

The Drivee private car rental platform is an alternative to professional agencies. Indeed, if you do not find a car available during your stay, Drivee is an easy solution.

Then, join the A7 motorway for 5.7 kilometres and exit at the A450 exit towards Pierre-bénite-Centre/Brignais. Then, join the D342 towards Chaponost and Brignais-Centre. Finally, adapt your itinerary according to the municipality of the Monts du Lyonnais in which you are going.

Take the bus to reach the Monts du Lyonnais

The Cars du Rhône bus company serves the towns of the Monts du Lyonnais. Line 2Ex starts from the Gorge de Loup stop in Lyon and stops at Chazelles-sur-Lyon. Line 142 from Gorge de Loup takes another route to the town of Aveize.
